Scott began his aviation career as a flight instructor for Sterling Flight Services in 1997. Two years later, Scott joined Piedmont Airlines as a first officer on the Dash 8 and in 2000, along with his family, purchased Sterling and rebranded it as Sterling Flight Training – operating a Cessna 150, Cessna 152, Zenith CH2000, Cherokee 140, Piper Warrior II, Beech Sierra and Piper Seneca. In 2003, Scott left Piedmont to focus on growing Sterling Flight Training and later founding Malone AirCharter.
Scott has served as Sterling’s Chief Instructor for more than 19 years and in 2018, was appointed a Designated Pilot Examiner by the FAA. He holds an ATP Single Engine Land and Multi Engine Land as well as an ATP Single Engine Sea and Multi Engine Sea. Additionally, Scott’s Flight Instructor ratings include airplane single and multi, rotorcraft-helicopter and instrument in both airplanes and helicopters and he is an advanced and instrument ground instructor. Scott holds eight type ratings; BE400, CE500, CE525S, CE560XL, CE680, DC3, HS125 and MU300 and remains current and qualified in five different Citation jets and has over 15,000 hours of flight time.
